Things that cause delays, umm Life!

What to do when…..

OK, I know, that’s a weird title for a blog, but stick around, it’s not just a title…..It’s an excuse!! Why do I need an excuse? have a quick look at the post dates. You noticed? Yeah, that’s right, it’s been a while.
I know, I know, you’ve been checking back to my page every half hour or so for the last month, wondering where I’ve been, wondering when the next spellbinding installment was going to magically appear. I’m guessing you turned to tranquilisers to get you through? Did you find yourself wandering the streets aimlessly, lacking my guidance. (Oh c’mon, I’m trying to feed my ego here). Please accept my humble apologies. (no really, I’m not kidding)
OK, here it is, my ‘Excuse’
My Mother came to stay!
No, not my mother in law, my actual, legal, biological Mother.
What’s that? So what? OK, a little background for you; My mother decided, some time ago, that swapping her three bedroom home and independent life for a resort style community, complete with pool, apartment, three square meals and drugs on tap was not for her. So she did what many retirees do and joined the ranks of the ‘Grey Nomads’. So far I think she has done the equivalent mileage of to the moon and back four or five times (in a Winnebago, the Apollo command module was taken)
Good for her!
Now, when she drops in on us (I think she actually calls in to see the dog, but maybe I’m just jealous) she normally dosses down in her mobile home. All good, no fuss, minimum disruption, we get our ironing done, not to mention the washing up, and my partner gets to show off his culinary skills to someone else (Did I mention that he loves to cook? Yeah, I know, lucky old me)
So what went wrong? What brought about the long hiatus between the all important blogs?
In a word ‘Transmission’. The Winnebago decided to take a holiday as well. Long story short, the mobile home wound up very un-mobile in the repair shop, and I had to find room for my mother in a dwelling that was now utterly without a spare room!
Yeah, clever me!
How did I achieve this? Did I achieve this? Did my poor old Mum have to sleep with the dog? (Well, yes, but that’s not how this story ends)
I’ll tell you next time.

When ‘It’s all too much” – start again!

This is just a quick update post for those lovely people who actually read the last blog post and enquired about my health. The ultrasound scan was basically clear – phew! and there was nothing to be concerned about. It is suggested that I have a mammagram but I’m afraid I’ve been totally put off them by the concept of having my boobs squashed and the apparent pain (my mum said so!). I know that’s the wrong attitude but that’s a fear that is greater than many others – I would rerather jump out of an aeroplane (and I have) than have my tits crushed for science so if anyone can think of a way around that please let me know. Meantime I’ve had  some blood tests too and they were all good so I figure everything is just fine!

Get Organized in 2009 – get started with lists

Happy New Year! I hope everyone had a great transition and that you’re  sticking to your resolutions! HUH? yep those things that we get all worked up about but seem to fizzle out after a short while, some in days others weeks or months. Was ‘getting organized’ one your resolutions, maybe in just one part of your life? Perhaps just your office or your time management or certain rooms in your house.

It’s certainly the prime time of year for this kind of big sorting and organzing to happen or get started. Where the problem often lies is in the planning that precedes it or more to the point doesn’t precede it and hence ultimate failure. Planning is of course a type of organising in itself and it that isn’t our strong point then you run into trouble right from the get go.

One of the most common ways to do so is to make lists. Now for the less linear oriented thinkers mindmaps are the perfect alternative where it looks more like a drawing with things grouped together in related bunches on the page. Whatever works best  for you, don’t just slavishly follow a recommended techniques if it doesn’t jag with you.

You could start by just doing a list of everything you can think of at the moment that you need to do or get done or want to do this year. These can be anything from ballroom dancing lessons to patching the hole in the kitchen ceiling. As a way of prompting your memory take a wander around your house and list things to be done in each room. Next you can then break the list up into various categories that make sense to you.

Such things as Self/Personal, House, Family, Finances and so forth. Next prioritise each task in each list from most important to least important. Finally go through each task a look into what’s required to make that goal happen – if it’s to patch the ceiling then step 1 might be to ringing a number of repairmen to come out and quote etc.

Now you have a to do list that has some very logical and sequential steps in it for you to follow in order to achieve your goals.

Next time; How to put this list into your weekly schedule.

Big Radio Debit Day!

sortersuzyAs I write this it’s about 40 minutes away from the airing  of the first episode in a series about how to ‘kick the clutter’ and be organised that I’m doing for the radio station 101.1 FM in Logan city Queensland Australia. I’ve recorded 12 episodes so far – they air every Monday Wednesday and Friday at around 2:30PM AEST (which is GMT+10hr) that’s 9:30PT and half past midnight ET! The stationbroadcasts 24/7 worldwide hence the reasonI mentioned the ohter timezones! You can listen in live online at www.101fm.asn.au

I’m not one for making a fuss about this kind of thing but friends that know about it seem to think it’s a big deal. I see it as a great opportunity in lots of ways and it’s going to be alot of fun to se where it all goes and if listeners find the information useful and valuable. I certain think it is but of course like so many things it’s only useful if you put it into action! Let me know what you think of them by commenting here!

A slightly cynical take on professional organisers

It’s Friday afternoon and I’m feeling somewhat frazzled and annoyingly scattered. My attention span lasts as long as I stay on the same page on my computer, if I’m required to go elsewhere any distraction in the process and I’m away on another activity – sound organised? Absolutely not! but hey even organizers can’t be organised all the time – otherwise how could we enjoy the difference!

Anyway in my internet wanderings I found this great youtube vid that it quite enjoyable with an almost predictable twist. Not bad – could have been a tad shorter or tighter in movie terms I think, but enjoy!.

Impossible dream? dare I?

I’m starting this blog with a dream that just a few days ago I finally dared to even consider! Still now as I write this, particularly BECAUSE I’m writing it – it scares the hell out of me. I’m so far from this at the moment, living day by day, taking action but constantly wondering ‘am I doing enough?’ and ‘what am I doing wrong that things seem to be going so slowly, what am I not getting about ‘the law of attraction’ that seems like I’m not having all those serendipitious moments the gurus talk about’.

I’m constantly trying to hear my intuition about the very loud babble of ‘do this do that do more’ mind chatter. So what’s the dream, honestly I just don’t know if I have the guts to put it out here and frankly does anyone really care? OK so I’m thinking of the stories where people have ‘put it out there’ and it all started to happen for them soooo……  let me get a little inspiration first.

So if Roger Bannister can bust through a huge social mindset about running a mile in 4 minutes, surely I can bust through my own limitations about creating something big, like a company, a business with
